Tacos Lengua aka beef tongue tacos....I had been craving these for years, and now I can get my fix, and do at least once a week. Service is slow to say the least, but worth the wait every time. Simple and to the point - onion, fresh coriander, and lime - no nonsense boarder style tacos for $1.75 each! I have not been in on the weekend to try the menudo, though I am not a huge fan of tripe (beef stomach) I am always up for a new experience. Do yourself a favor and order one of each type of taco on your first visit to see what you like, and maybe surprise yourself with something you might not have tried before. I usualy order 4-5 tacos and struggle to finish the last every time, they are good but filling, and for the price it is one of the best lunches you will find in TC. They also carry a full line of Mexican soda from Jaritos to Coke, Pepsi, and even Squirt all made with cane sugar and not HFCS.

My order was delish. Cook went out of the way to duplicate a dish that I'd had in the Detroit area and came pretty darn close. The staff was so willing to accommodate. I'm lucky becuase I live right around the corner!

It is the real deal! For those that do not appreciate the real deal...you are better suited for Taco Bell. The horchata two big thumbs up! Love the steak tacos and the tamales (all of them)

Amazing tacos, so fresh and authentic!! Try the chicken and pork tacos: perfectly seasoned in a double corn tortilla, fresh cilantro and onions. Yum! I will b a regular.

The tacos here are pretty tasty and bargain priced! We had a decent sized meal for two for around $12! Tamales were a bit small and dry, but had a nice flavor. The tostada was good, but next time I'll order it without the sliced deli ham. The horchata was yummy! We just did take-out and I didn't pick it up, so I cannot comment on the seating, but it's great for take-out.

I love this place. I have had several different kinds of tacos and liked them all. The salsa is great and I could eat a whole bowl full of the refried beans. Most of all, I like the people who work there. The nice lady behind the counter came out and told be about how the restaurant started and their relationship with the grocery store on South Airport. It is a true family enterprise and I completely buy into that. With places like this and Taco House, I will never again go to Taco Bell. What would be the point? I can't wait to try the TTL out on Three Mile!!

Wasn't what I thought it was going to be. Definitely was more authentic than other options in the area. The menu was a little chaotic. There is seating in the place, but there really wasn't a waiter. Carry out and call ahead if there's more than just one eating would be best. Food was good, just wouldn't be my first or second choice.

I love this place. I do not live in TC anymore, so this is my go to place whenever I visit. I have had tacos in various restaurants in the U.S., from the Southwest to Chicago, and also in Mexico. It is refreshing to have a place like this in Traverse City. The food is authentic, cheap, and fresh. The tacos always have great flavor. The last time I was there, I tried one of the sampler plates with flautas, a sope, and a tamal. It came with beans and rice. Everything on the plate was delicious. Unfortunately, they do not have a lot of seating for dine in orders, but I have always managed to be able sit when I have gone. The woman who takes the orders (I believe is the owner) is always very nice. I have never had a bad experience here.

I'm a SoCal girl and know mexican food. This lacked on all accounts. Won't be going back.

After two visits, I won't be going back. The meat selections for the tacos are absolutely tasteless. And the same goes for the fish taco. This place is very tightfisted, and they don't even offer you salsa unless you ask for it. Guacamole will cost you 3 to 5 dollars extra. Most unforgivable though are the store bought tortillas which taste like they came out of a plastic bag. My years in Texas may have spoiled me when it comes to authentic Mexican food. You've got to wonder how a place like this stays in business.

Came to this place for early dinner, the lady on the counter was pretty friendly. This is more like a convenience store/take out restaurant with a couple chairs and tables. Food was good, the salsa was very good (both red and green). They used store bought chips though so that was a bit disappointing. We ordered menudo (weekend special), platter with 2 tacos and tamales and nachos. They were all good, but it felt a bit like we were not wanted when they started locking the door and putting the closed sign at 5:30, still 30 mins before they actually close. And I wish they would put prices on their drinks and some of the merchandise. All in all pretty good for TC.

BEST RESTAURANT IN TC! No joke. There are places with lines, endorsements from celebrities chefs, foodies lined up, and downtown or lake view addresses, but none with better food or warmer service. I had 3 fish tacos (more than I could eat) and my husband had 3 tacos al pastor. We also got some tamales to take home. We were so impressed with the authenticity, cleanliness, and friendliness. Oh, and the salsas are out of this world! Dining room is just a couple of tables and it's counter service, but it's a lot less of a headache than the Latin place on Front Street. Cheerier atmosphere, too. I was told the new "dos" location out on Hammond has more seating.

  • Hayden C.

Wow. Try all of their salsas including the Salsa Macha. Holy hot. The corn shells were doubled and the cilantro instead of lettuce....winning. Fork out the extra for cheese and go with the shredded chx. You will not be disappointed. Yum.

The clerk behind the counter (Trish) was trying to clear tables and take orders from a packed restaurant at 6 pm - not doing very well. She gave us 1 entree when we ordered 2 and rudely blamed the mistake on us. She was rude to other customers also. Not what we've come to expect from this fine establishment.

Authentic and reasonable price. Enchiladas were great and the burrito was excellent. Great takeout place that is clean and has a friendly staff. Not much for a sit-down dinner spot but we will be back for takeout.

Fantastic Fish Tacos with chipotle seasoning! The seating capacity is only about 12-15 max, but there are a few picnic tables outside. Most customers are Spanish-speaking. It's a fun environment and Robby is a wonderful hostess!

  • Courtney T.

Love this place. The owner Robi is very friendly and talkative (in either English or Spanish). My fav are the fish tacos. I'll miss not having these when I go home to Ireland! Gracias para la comida tan rica!

Finally got to this taco stand. This is for real Mexican. If you like American's style of Mexican food this is not your place. The guac was super fresh. I love Mexican Coke in a glass bottle. I ordered the small nache and it came in a french fry basket. Freshly made but way too much for 1 person. The only down side is there is 1 counter person who was on the phone for at least 10-15 minutes taking a catering order which shut down the counter orders and food delivery. The restroom is a little primative. Just plan not to use it.

Amazing burritos at a great value. I've gotten takeout and handful of times and my family loves it. The burritos are very large and all types are delicious even the beef tongue.

STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND GO HERE RIGHT NOW. TC is a foodie town, and this is some of the best food here. Authentic, delicious, inexpensive, everything you want if you're looking for some amazing food. I have explored the menu quite a bit and EVERYTHING I have had has been top-notch. There are a handful of Mexican restaurants in town that do not even compare, so don't waste your time going anywhere else but here. You will NOT be disappointed.

  • Brian W.

We drove here expecting a sit down restaurant only to find a counter, a few tables and chairs and some coolers full of cold beverages (FWIW: No alcohol). You order at the counter, have a seat at a table (or take it home) and you will be glad you drove here. Authentic Mexican food, candies and other snacks available as well. You will not be disappointed based on the tamales, burritos, and guacamole we all had. What are you waiting for?

I just went for the 1st time, because of all the positive feedback on here, and being from Southern California I was a little skeptical, but OMG! This place is truly SO DELICIOUS!!!! Ill be a regular after today. I ordered some carne asada tacos, a carne asada burrito, and a beef tamale, sooo yummy!!!!

  • Snipey C.

Best tacos in Traverse City (probably best tacos north of GR in actuality). The orange salsa is a must have on whatever you are eating. True taqueria pricing ($1.75/taco). I hope this place never closes. Try this if you need an authentic taco experience.

  • Luv Me Some Hungry Hippo O.

Went there for the first time and ordered 2 burritos (Barbacoa and pork) and 2 different tamales. The tamales were dry and seemed as if they had been around from earlier in the day. The burritos were below average. The filling was more of a gooey filling with meat. I come from So Calif. and authentic Mexican food abounds and this is not authentic. I had high hopes in finding Mexican food from my old home but was disappointed.

I was just about to give up on this town when it came to Mexican food when I finally found this place. Every single time I asked all the locals about Mexican food the list was always the same Agave, Spanglish, La Señorita, Taco House. No! None of these places actually serve Authentic Mexican food. They all serve "Mexican" might as well go to Taco Bell for that style of food. This Taqueria is the real deal. I have tried a few items before writing a review just to make sure it wasn't just a lucky attempt. They also have a second location same name just "Dos" Spanish for 2 on 3mile and Hammond. If you want Real Authentic Mexican this is the only place to go!

Bottom line: Excellent, authentic Mexican food served quick for a steal of a price. I live near here, so go all the time. Pork tacos are the best! Great salsa. Just go!

Fantastic fish tacos, great green salsa (with some real heat). Just like california. My new staple. Note, not a lot of seating, more like a to-go place.

This is the real deal, folks! Simply made and flavorful. Great to stop and take out. Won't bust the budget. Tacos and enchiladas are the best bet. Do yourself a favor, and get a side of rice and refried beans. Stop across the street at Francisco's, pick up a six-pack of Dos Equis Amber lager...

I've been here a handful of times and each time the tacos taste better than the last, they were always good but now they are great!

Initially I thought they were related to the Taqueria Margerita that had moved from "Willey's out Back" but they are completely different owners. Love, love, love the carne asada tacos with cilantro and onions...corn tortillas are standard so if you want flour, make sure you specify that. I add cheese and their green sauce is exceptional. Make sure you also grab some of the Mexican soda to 'authenticize' your meal (that's a 'jennism'). My teen and I eat here ALL THE TIME however; we take out. Seating inside is very limited - two tables and have not tried the outside seating but the food is wonderfully authentic.

It was a hot day over Memorial day weekend. I was house/pet-sitting over on this side of town (up past Grawn), I almost drove right on by...but I thought maybe they have agua frescas and I pulled into their parking lot. I have a slight agua fresca obsession, yum yum yum. I only wish they had more flavors, but maybe they do alternate them. A Mango, or Melon, or Tamarindo...pretty please? I ended up leaving w/ a jamaica drink and a take-away chicken tamale for later. I could eat tamales almost every day, even if it is hot outside and not christmastime...I just like tamales that much. This one was on the petite side, but it was only a dollar so, it'll do. Tasted fine, just needed some kind of salsa/sauce. Thanks!

This place is absolutely the real deal. In an area that is marked by its absolute lack of ethnic food options, Taqueria TC Latino cures some of that drought. It's not got a huge menu, though they do feature weekly specials like enchiladas and menudo, the big focus of Taqueria is, namely, tacos. These are legit Mexican street tacos, too - not the crunchy hard shell American fast food taco, just a few fresh, focused ingredients inside a pair of corn tortillas. Garnish with a bit of lime juice and it's a flavor punch that is extraordinary! TC Latino reaches for the Corona Authentica in other ways as well, featuring almost exclusively Mexican drinks and sodas, (which is wonderful, especially if you've never had a Mexican Coke before - made with cane sugar and not high fructose corn syrup) a TV blaring Univision all hours of the day, and even via its menu options: The more adventurous can get a tongue taco, or even tripe if that's their speed. I did dock a star because on one visit, in a chorizo taco I got a sharp bit of bone and that is just unacceptable -and dangerous! Bringing this to the staff's attention didn't get anywhere either, just an "oh, sorry about that." Not that I expected a refund or a free taco or anything -they're cheap enough as it is - but I think it's problematic enough to at least warrant *pretending* like it's a concern. Ultimately, my solution has been to avoid the chorizo on subsequent visits. On the whole though, it's just a little community restaurant that's trying to provide something lacking in the region. It's located a little on the edge of town, but if you're willing to make the drive, you won't be disappointed.

Awesome, fresh, delicious and affordable. I eat here once a week and always get chicken tacos. The owners are friendly and the service is fast.

The food here is authentic Latino family-style cooking. It fills the void of having left the ethnic food hub of the midwest, Chicago. The tacos here are just amazing - No fluff, just authentic meat, onions and cilantro. And good lord the green enchiladas are awesome!

We lived in Austin, Texas for four years and had the opportunity to enjoy a lot of "taquerias." We were very excited, yet cautiously optimistic when we saw the "Opening Soon" sign for Taqueria T.C. Latino, because finding authentic Mexcian food in this area has always been very challenging. So it was with our fingers crossed that we went into the new taqueria a couple days after they opened. We ordered a bit of everything, including: lengua (beef tongue), barbacoa (slow cooked beef, incredibly tender and flavorful), chicken and carne asada (steak) tacos, as well as bean tostadas, a milanesa torta (flattened, breaded and fried steak sandwich, different from typical sandwiches), a couple of tamales and horchata (a cold refreshing drink made with rice, sugar and water). We l-o-v-e-d the barbacoa and chicken tacos and really liked the others. The torta was excellent, and the bean tostadas, which were topped with avocado and mexican cheese, were also excellent. The tamales were good, but I've made and had better. The horchata was delicious, the kids and adults loved it. We've since gone back and ordered more tacos for a quick meal and the quality was consistent, which was excellent. Each taco comes with two corn tortillas, so you can break up the fillings to make two tacos if you want. The have "elote en vaso" on the menu (fresh cut corn in a cup, which is usually topped with mayo and chili powder), but it has not been available yet. I have only ever had it in Texas, and I loved it, so I hope it actually makes an appearance soon! I hope they add some breakfast tacos too. I love this place and am so happy we finally have a real taqueria in TC, it is a winner in my family's opinion. I should mention that the word is already out and the lot is packed sometimes with people waiting for their to-go orders. Since this place is really a carry-out taqueria, I would call ahead and place your order BEFORE you head out, unless you enjoy standing around, which some people do. They do not have a website yet, so the first time, you may want to go in and order or pick up the menu to take home.

Ugg - We were anxious to try this restaurant as it's close to our home and the reviews were so positive. We ordered chicken tacos, chicken & beef burritos and few other items - also picked up some salsa that they make on site. The service was very slow and the food was a huge disappointment. The corn shells were soggy on the tacos and flavors bland. The beans & rice we ordered were cold and tasteless. We ate 1/2 of the food, then threw the rest away. Maybe we were just there on the wrong day, regardless - we won't be back..

This was one of the worst experiences I have ever had at a local restaurant. After reading the many positive reviews about this place. My girlfriend and I got very hungry for authentic Mexican and decided to give it a try...we got there at 8pm to an open sign and a sign saying they were open till 9, but half the lights were on and the stools were up on the tables. We walked in, asked if they were still open, the waitress yelled over the vacuum, we are open till 9. She started to take our order, asked if it was eat-in or take out. We said dine-in to which she rolled her eyes and sighed...right in front of us!! I asked if there was a problem and she stated, no I guess you can eat here. My girlfriend and I looked at each other and said no thanx we don't feel like eating at an empty restaurant on a Saturday night with extremely rude staff make our food. The food may have been good, but we simply could not get past the unbelievable disrespect of the staff at this establishment. We will NEVER recommend this place to anyone.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
